Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR | My dream has come true

For Fujifilm fanboys who live and breathe classic focal lengths, the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR feels like a dream come true. On X-Series bodies, that 23mm translates to a 35mm full-frame equivalent which is the quintessential street, documentary, and everyday focal length that feels right. It’s wide enough to capture context, tight enough to isolate subjects, and just unmistakably cinematic in its natural field of view. That’s a key reason why I think it wins hearts over the slightly longer 27mm f/2.8 (a “40mm equivalent”), because 35mm is ingrained in the photographic psyche.

The 27mm is great, but 40mm sits in that awkward zone: not quite classic street, not quite portrait-y. The 23mm lands smack in the sweet spot — fun, versatile, and intuitive — which makes framing instinctive. Fujifilm nailed the balance: this lens is compact, lightweight, weather resistant, and sharp, perfect for grab-and-go shooting on X-T, X-E, or X-Pro bodies.

For fanboys chasing the iconic 35mm look for rich environmental shots, candid moments, and daily life; the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR is a lens you knew your were missing.

My only gripe is the choice to stick with the slightly noisy autofocus motor that the 27mm had. I wish they used a quiet one like the 23mm f2, but we understand business and internal competition of your own products. If it were quiet it would be a stealth video lens also. However, that should not hold you back from enjoying the photographic experiences which is what this lens is all about.

I love it already.
