Jersey City has a brand new pizza restaurant in the Greenville/The Hill area. Veteran pizza chef, Quil Lyles and his wife Tracey are the owners setting a tone of black ownership in ever changing Jersey City. In my opinion they have some of the best pizza in Jersey City.
When pizza comes to mind you don't think black people owning a Mom and Pop shop. However, black people having been making pizza for as long as pizza has been around. If you go to any top chain restaurant like Dominos or Pizza Hut (which have both been around for decades) and you will see us making pizza. There are also plenty of people making home made pizzas. All different people make all different types of cuisines everyday. The Lyles took it a step further by creating their own unique recipe for their pizza after years of experimenting and then eventually opening their own restaurant in their home town.
I was fortunate to have met the Lyles when they were getting started by taking some photos for them. I have also sampled some of their pizza and was truly impressed. It is unique yet classic at the same time. I immediately knew this place was going to be a hit within the community. They are gearing up to be not only one of best pizza shops but an example of black excellence in the JC area.
