Harry's Daughter in Jersey City | Restaurant Review

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Harry's Daughter Jersey City | First Visit To A Great Caribbean Food Restaurant and Gastropub.

Spoiler Alert: The food is top quality. Now read on.

During the Valentine's Day weekend my wife and I decided to make the long overdue visit to Harry's Daughter in our hometown, Jersey City. It was right off the heels of our day out getting a couples massage at Sojo Spa in Edgewater. We worked up an appetite and our daughter was at the grandparents for the day so we took advantage of the time.

During this pandemic there are many restaurants and places that we were not able to go. However, now that we're vaccinated and boosted we are heading out and exploring a bit. Things are opening up as well so its a great time to wine and dine.

One of my favorite cuisines to eat is Caribbean food. It's like soul food in some aspects with a bit of a kick. There some good Caribbean restaurants in Jersey City but Harry's Daughter seems to have brought something different to the table.

Harry's Daughter is located in the Bergen-Lafayette area of Jersey City on Communipaw Avenue.

Environment of the Gastropub

We went at night so it was dimly lit which is a nice mood. You enter on the side entrance which is in the middle of the space, equal distance from the front to the back of the place.

We will need a second visit to formally discuss the bar, but the ambience is nice. It was hours before the Super Bowl and they had a DJ warming up for the evening festivities. They have a DJ on the weekends so we definitely want to see how it is for those days and times.

Let's Talk About the Food

We ordered appetizers and main courses. Everything was very good and made with the highest quality. You can taste the freshness and care. That's a big deal as the son of two very good cooks.

The Roti Quesadilla was the star of the show for me. If you don't know what a Roti is, its a caribbean style flat bread. It has a flaky yet smoky texture. They used it to make a quesadilla with shrimp for my order. Comes with the standard sauces of quacamole, salsa, and sour cream.

My wife really loved the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls. We shared the mac and cheese which had a great cheese flavor. They also have a lobster mac and cheese so we will have to try that next time.

For mains we had jerk salmon and pork ribs. Both were cooked perfectly, tender, and very flavorful.

What I Think Overall

Every single bite of the meal was outstanding. It was bursting with flavor and you will not be disappointed. Go give this place a try.

Next time I would like to get an official meeting with the owner and staff so I could take more curated and extensive photos for the second visit. Stay tuned.
