Tamron 17-70mm Review for Fuji X with Image Samples

Updated: Jan 22, 2023

Spoiler Alert: The Tamron 17-70mm for Fujifilm is my new favorite all in one-do everything lens and the best value lens for the X system.

I recently went out for a day with the family after recovering from Covid. I had the lens on preorder and it arrived while I was quarantined so this was the first time I was able to use it.

My family and I went downtown Jersey City to Newport Green. It's a nice park near the waterfront with a sprinkler section. I took some photos below of the skyline and park.

All photos were taken on Fujifilm XS10. I used the Standard picture profile, Auto White Balance, evaluate metering, and single point autofocus.

My first day out and first impressions of the lens is that the image quality, stabilization, focal range, and fast aperture makes this lens the most useful lens for an all in one walk around lens.

You can use this lens for travel, landscapes, portraits, events, products, and anything else you can think of. This lens is a welcome addition to the Fujifilm X series. Most people considering the 16-55mm should really consider the Tamron 17-70mm lens instead. We know the native Fuji lens has fantastic quality but is it truly that much better for the price vs the trade-offs? I personally don't think so I'm happy with my purchase.

I also think for video work this will be my #1 choice. I already have a 67mm variable ND filter and this sets me up perfectly. The constat 2.8 and focal range means you can adjust on the fly without changing lenses. Most of mt video work is run and gun in the moment so there's not much time to do lens changes.

Go get this lens now.
